Blood and gore
Blood, injuries and body damage on screen.
A content label, not a money rating. We read it from each game's official age-rating descriptors and show the strongest level any board gives.
What it covers
How much blood and injury the game shows, from a cartoon splat to dismemberment. It usually comes with violence, but some games are violent without any blood, and some show injury detail outside a fight.
How the rating boards label it
Australia's Classification Board lists 'Blood and gore' and 'Injury detail' among its themes at M, with 'Strong' versions at MA 15+ and 'High impact' at R 18+; 'Mild injury detail' can appear at PG.
The ESRB uses Animated Blood (blood shown in an exaggerated or unrealistic way), Mild Blood, Blood, and Blood and Gore (blood or mutilated body parts).
PEGI has no separate blood descriptor: blood is judged as part of the violence and shows in the age label.
Mild, moderate and strong
Mild: cartoon, unrealistic or occasional blood (ESRB Animated Blood or Mild Blood, ACB PG).
Moderate: realistic blood (ESRB Blood, ACB M).
Strong: gore, mutilation or lingering injury detail (ESRB Blood and Gore, ACB MA 15+ or R 18+).
