The full story
How Saltroad plays
Saltroad is a turn-based game of high-seas trade: read the market, buy cheap, sail hard, sell dear. Under the deck it's a living economy — ports, prices, pirates, loans — and every turn is a real decision. This is the whole machine, laid out honestly.

The core loop
Five moves, endless voyages.
The rhythm never changes. What changes is how well you read it — and how far you push your luck before the sea, or the loanshark, catches up.
-
Arrive at a port and read the market. Prices shift every time you dock. Spot what's cheap here, and remember what was selling high two ports back.
-
Buy cargo low, plan a route. Fill the hold with the right goods, then pick a course that turns a profit before the interest on your loan eats it.
-
Sail — and gamble with the sea. Open water means pirates and weather. Every leg you sail is a risk you chose to take, so choose it well.
-
Sell high, bank the gold, upgrade the ship. Offload where demand runs hot, pay down the loanshark, then sink the profit into a bigger, faster, tougher vessel.
-
Repeat, compound, build an empire. Small wins stack into fortunes. The loop stays the same; your mastery of it doesn't.
Systems in depth
Every part pulls its weight.
No filler mechanics, no menus that lead nowhere. Six systems, each one a lever you actually pull to win.
Trading & the economy
Every port runs its own market, and prices move on their own supply and demand. Buy a good where it's dirt cheap, haul it to where they're starving for it, and pocket the spread. There's no "correct" price list to memorise — the market shifts under you, so the edge is reading it, not grinding it.
The world map & routes
A world of ports strung across the sea, each with its own goods, prices and dangers. Distance costs you turns and exposes you to trouble, so the real game is routing: which loop of ports keeps the hold full and the gold moving. A good circuit is worth more than any single lucky sale.
Pirates: fight or talk
Sooner or later a strange sail crests the horizon. You can stand and fight — trading blows where your guns and defence decide it — or you can negotiate, bribe or bluff your way clear. Both are valid plays. Losing a loaded ship is how a great run ends, so pick your battles.
Ship & upgrades
Gold buys a better boat. Pour it into cargo space to carry more per run, speed to cross the map before prices turn, or defence to survive the pirates you can't talk down. You decide what kind of captain you are by what you choose to upgrade.
Money, loans & the loanshark
Start small, borrow big. Take a loan to buy cargo you couldn't otherwise afford, then race to sell before the interest compounds against you. The loanshark is patient but not kind — leverage is the fastest way up, and the fastest way to the bottom.
The Captain's Log & minigames
The Captain's Log keeps the story of your voyage — the runs, the wins, the near-misses on the water. And a port is more than a market: side minigames like Skuttlebutt give you a bit of tavern luck to chase between the serious business of trade.
Why buy-once wins
A trader that isn't trying to trade with you.
A free-to-play trading game has a conflict of interest built into its heart: it makes money when you struggle. That's why those games gate your cargo behind timers, sell you gold, and quietly rig the economy to sell you out of the hole they dug.
Saltroad can't do that. You pay once, and from then on the only thing the game wants is for you to have a good time with a hard, fair economy. The difficulty is honest. The market is never a store. The best ship is the one you earned.
What we cut
What you get
Straight answers
Before you buy.
How much does it cost?
One up-front price on the App Store or Google Play, and that's the lot. No in-app purchases, no "starter packs", no premium currency to top up. You own the whole game the moment it finishes downloading.
Is internet or an account required?
No. Saltroad is fully playable offline — no login, no account, no server that can be switched off and take your save with it. Your voyage lives on your device and stays there.
Is it pay-to-win?
There's nothing to pay for, so there's nothing to pay your way past. Every ship, upgrade and fortune is earned in-game by trading well and sailing smart. The only advantage anyone has is skill.
Which platforms is it on?
iOS and Android, out now. One purchase per platform — buy it once and it's yours to keep, with the full game included from the start.
Do you track me or show ads?
No ads, no trackers, no data mining. We don't build a profile on you and we've got nothing to sell to advertisers, because you already paid for the game. That was the deal.
