    Child-safety enforcement

Nevada Attorney General, April 2026: agreement, reached without a lawsuit, to pay more than $12 million and adopt age checks and chat limits; by October 2026 Roblox had also settled with Alabama, Kansas, Mississippi, South Dakota and West Virginia. Pending lawsuits and investigations are on the track record and are not counted here.

What's on the record, newest first

  1. Regulator action

Designated a very large online platform under EU law

The European Commission designated Roblox a Very Large Online Platform under the Digital Services Act after it declared at least 45 million average monthly users in the EU. Roblox had four months, until January 2027, to meet additional obligations, including assessing and reducing systemic risks such as negative effects on minors and on users' physical and mental well-being. The designation follows from the platform's size and is not a finding of wrongdoing.

  2. Regulator action

Agreed child-safety settlements with Nevada and other US states

Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford announced an agreement, reached without a lawsuit, under which Roblox will pay more than $12 million, including $10 million over three years for youth programmes, and adopt measures such as age verification for all users and limiting chat for adults and under-16s to trusted friends. No court made findings. Bloomberg reported further settlements with West Virginia and Alabama that brought the total for the three states to $35.8 million. By 29 October 2026 Roblox had also settled with Mississippi, South Dakota and Kansas, and it recorded $140 million in expenses in the first nine months of 2026 for state settlements and settlement talks.

  3. Good practice

Required age checks for chat and introduced age-based accounts

Roblox began requiring all users worldwide to complete a facial age estimation, or ID check for those 13 and over, to use chat. Users can only chat with their own and adjacent age groups, and chat is off by default for under-9s unless a parent consents. In April 2026 it announced Roblox Kids, Roblox Select and standard accounts that limit chat and content by age, with users who have not completed an age check limited to games rated Mild or below and no chat; the rollout was due to start in mid-May 2026.

  4. Court case

Child-exploitation lawsuits combined in a US federal court

The US Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation combined 31 federal lawsuits, and 48 related cases, into one proceeding before Chief Judge Richard Seeborg in the Northern District of California (In re: Roblox Corporation Child Sexual Exploitation and Assault Litigation, MDL No. 3166). The plaintiffs allege that they or their children were groomed and sexually exploited by adults who contacted them on Roblox, and that Roblox misrepresented its safety and failed to warn; some cases also name Discord, Snap and Meta. Roblox and the other companies opposed combining the cases. The claims are allegations; no ruling on their merits had been reported at last check.

  5. Regulator action

Blocked in Russia for six months

Russia's communications regulator Roskomnadzor blocked access to Roblox, accusing it of distributing extremist material and 'LGBT propaganda' and saying it was "rife with inappropriate content that can negatively impact the spiritual and moral development of children". Russia's digital development ministry said on 10 June 2026 that the restrictions had been lifted because Roblox had complied with Russian law, including by introducing a mechanism to restrict access to games by age group.

  6. Court case

Sued by US state attorneys general over child safety

Louisiana's attorney general sued Roblox in August 2025, followed by Kentucky, Texas (6 November 2025) and Florida (11 December 2025), alleging that Roblox failed to protect children from predators and misled parents about the platform's safety; Florida's attorney general had issued criminal subpoenas to Roblox in October 2025. By October 2026 Arkansas, Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Tennessee and Los Angeles and San Diego counties had also sued. In 2026 courts in Texas, Iowa, Louisiana and Tennessee refused to dismiss the states' consumer-protection claims, while dismissing some other claims; no court has ruled on the merits. In October 2026 the US Federal Trade Commission and the states of Pennsylvania and Utah told Roblox that, in an ongoing investigation, they were considering claims for alleged violations of the FTC Act, the children's privacy law COPPA and state consumer-protection laws. Roblox called the Louisiana claims erroneous. The claims are allegations.

  7. Court case

Blocked in Turkey by court order

A criminal court of peace in Adana ordered access to Roblox blocked after a prosecutor's investigation; Turkey's justice minister linked the block to content that could lead to the sexual exploitation of children. Roblox said it was contacting the authorities.

  8. Court case

Settled class action over deleted paid items for $10 million

In Doe v. Roblox Corporation (US District Court for the Northern District of California, No. 3:21-cv-03943), users alleged that Roblox deleted virtual items that children had paid for, as part of its moderation, without notice or refunds. Roblox denied wrongdoing and agreed to a $10 million settlement for US users whose accounts had paid-for content removed before 11 May 2023, paid as Robux credits or, for larger claims, cash, and agreed to keep automatically crediting users for Robux spent on items it later removes for at least four more years. Judge William H. Orrick gave final approval on 5 October 2023.
