US class action alleging Coin Master is gambling aimed at children sent to arbitration
Renika Williams, on behalf of her minor child, filed a proposed class action against Moon Active in the US District Court for the Northern District of California in February 2025, alleging that Coin Master, in which players can pay real money for more slot-machine spins, is an illegal gambling operation aimed at children; the complaint said the child bought thousands of spins and coins with gift cards and her mother's credit card. On 9 December 2025 Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers granted Moon Active's motion to compel arbitration under the game's terms and paused the case, and on 2 April 2026 she denied the plaintiff's request for reconsideration. The court did not rule on the gambling claims, which are allegations.

German media regulator's proceedings led Coin Master to block minors in Germany
The State Media Authority of North Rhine-Westphalia, working with the Commission for the Protection of Minors in the Media (KJM), opened proceedings against Moon Active after Coin Master drew attention for direct purchase appeals to children and young people, seeking a finding that the game could not continue to be distributed in Germany in its existing form. The proceedings were concluded with legal effect on 3 April 2020 after Moon Active added double age confirmation, blocked minors from the app, added instructions for switching off in-app purchases and ended its influencer marketing in Germany.

German youth media board declined to blacklist Coin Master
After a television segment in October 2019 prompted requests for review, Germany's Federal Review Board for Media Harmful to Minors (BPjM) examined whether Coin Master's simulated slot machines trivialised gambling. Its 12-member panel decided on 4 March 2020 that the app did not meet the legal test for being harmful to minors, while noting that risks such as excessive use and financial harm to children were outside the scope of the law it applies.
